A Salute to Vietnam Veterans

Aug
22

August 16, 2010

Thirty five years ago, Vietnam Veterans returned home from an unpopular war without the respect that our nation and our citizens afford those men and women returning today from Iraq and Afghanistan.

American Veterans, regardless of where they fight, risk their lives for the people of the United States. So, why have many Vietnam Veterans been treated disrespectfully, or with disregard? The politics of the Vietnam Conflict were beyond the responsibility of soldiers, nurses and countless others who served their country in Vietnam.

Although we can not change the past, what we can do is honor the brave men and women that defended our freedom today!

Bobbie and Philip Morris have never heard their daughter speak.

Born with diseases that baffled her doctors, Dara Rae Morris has lived for 37 years in silence. Mentally and physically challenged, she has three leaks in her heart.

“She doesn’t say ‘I love you’ or ‘Mom and Dad,’ but she knows …” Bobbie Morris said, her voice trailing off.

Dara Rae Morris spent the first 15 years of her life mostly hospitalized, undergoing open heart surgery and other procedures. During a hospital visit last fall, doctors found more leaks in her heart and told her parents they believe that fixing them would be too much for her to endure.

Despite War Wounds, 3 US Vets Climb Kilimanjaro

Three U.S. war veterans who lost their legs in Vietnam, Afghanistan or Iraq, have hiked, crawled and clawed their way to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro atop five prosthetic legs and only one good leg among them.

The trio took six days to climb Africa’s tallest mountain, 19,340 feet high, as part of the Warfighter Sports Challenge, a series of extreme sports events for permanently disabled veterans. They topped Kilimanjaro in Tanzania over the weekend and scrambled down — what some call the toughest part, especially on prosthetics — on Wednesday.

War sees no warrior color, sex, or ethnic background – wars only sees red blood shed by our heroes for our freedoms.
I Am An American
That’s the way most of us put it just matter of factly
They are plain words those four.
You could write them on your thumbnail
Or you could pen the right across a clear autumm sky
But remember too that they are more than words
They are a way of life
So when ever you speak them, speak them firmly
Speak Them Proudly
Speak Them Gratefully
I AM AN AMERICAN

WHISPERING WINDS FARM, 1418 OLD STATE ROUTE 119,

MT. PLEASANT, PENNSYLVANIA, 15666-3511 – 724.547.2550

I got up at 6am today, which is an absolute miracle. I’ve been straightening up the house and getting our pets ready for our absences. The cars are packed, directions are in hand, and I will wake up my son shortly for breakfast.

Below, you will find photos of the art that will be available for sale at the event on Saturday. I have no idea how this is going to go, but this is where you will find updates on our travels and the event as I post them.

Thank you to everyone for their support and assistance on this project!! You are all wonderful, and my gratitude is enormous.

The following images are greeting cards that I made for the event.  Each card is hand printed and the details are either colored or painted by hand. Cards will be available individually, or in packs of 5 and 10. Thanks again to my friends Sarah and Amy for helping me finish this portion of the project.

T-shirts are on their way to PA from the printer. I will post a photo when I get there. Several designs are also available online at Redbubble.com. There will also be a variety of hand made jewelry available at the event. I apologize for not having photos available in advance.

There will be coloring pages and crayons available for children at the event. If weather permits on Friday, I am planning to stencil the Pony logo on Claire’s spring house for the children to paint as well.

Finally, here are the banners that will be used in the parade of horses for the main event. Each is about the size of half a horse blanket and will hang on one side of the horses. They are all hand painted and will be available for viewing after Claire and I speak about our project and I paint her horse as part of a performance art demonstration.

April 17th Fund Raiser for the Patriot Pony Project will be held at my house from 1-4:30 pm. Contact frances@machinepolitick.com for directions.

Thanks to Lisa Chambers for her generous offer to help me with this event.

The Patriot Pony Project is an equine based performance art exhibition. The project is a partnership between MachinePolitick and Whispering Winds; designed to promote patriotism and liberty through the utilization of a series of living canvases. The beautiful horses of Whispering Winds will be hand painted with non-toxic materials by Frances Byrd of MachinePolitick. Each painted horse will be a living manifestation of an original piece of art designed specifically for this live event.

Please join us at Whispering Winds on Saturday, June 12, 2010. More details will be released as they develop, including hotel accommodations and other events in the area for those traveling out of town for the event. At the end of the performance piece, there will be a short description of the project’s formation and the artist’s passion for Liberty and America as well as a description of her larger projects to promote those ideas through her art.

Claire will give a brief description of the Patriot Pony Project, Fulfilling Connections newest workshop for children and families of our brave military.  A scholarship has been established to support this workshop. The audience will then be invited to ask questions, tour the facilities at Whispering Winds, meet the staff, and view fine art in the horse barn.

This is the introductory flier for a project I launched this weekend. As mentioned, there will be more information as we secure vendors and determine entry fees and times for the event. Below, you will find a short description of the people behind the project.

Some of you here are familiar with me and my work, others are not. About seven years ago, I decided to combine my passion for politics with my talents as an artist and create political art. In the beginning, I focused mainly on issues of big government and hypocrisy. Last year, I started to become politically active and branched out with my work to include patriotic and Liberty based art.

About a year ago, I teamed up with ModernConservative.com to form a Conservative art movement called Declarationism. The home for that project is Liberatchik, where other artists are gathering to add their perspective and join the movement. In the fall, I hope to launch the movement on a national level with the help of my friend Claire, who is hosting the Patriot Pony Project. I met Claire last year at the Taxpayer March on Washington, DC where we discovered a common passion for limited government and individual Liberty. We also share the belief that America is a great country, patriotism is not a stigma, and the people who serve in the military deserve our respect and thanks.

Claire is the owner of Whispering Winds Farm in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. She provides several services on her facilities including event planning, horse boarding and breeding, and therapy programs.

Claire and I have teamed up to form The Patriot Pony Project, described above, to promote the ideas of liberty and patriotism. For that reason, the event has been planned around Flag Day this year. In the fall, I hope to return to her farm to launch Liberatchik and raise awareness of the Declarationist Art Movement on a national scale.

Tomorrow is my birthday, so I thought I would take a moment to give thanks. I’m posting this moving video of a speech by Oliver North. The accompanying imagery successfully conveys the strength and character of our armed services. Thank you guys for all you do, and the freedom I enjoy as a result of your sacrifices.

‘Liberty for a New Generation’

Dec
13

I was honored to participate in A Patriot’s Christmas on Friday in Atlanta. The event was held at the Georgia World Congress Center downtown with the main feature of the event being a screening of The Tea Party Movie. A local vocalist, Lauren St. Jane, sang Christmas songs at the beginning of the event while I painted a Liberty on stage next to her. The painting was raffled at the end of the night to raise money for Operation Home Front and Americans For Prosperity.

I was able to display some of my work at the event and had many encouraging conversations with the patrons. The passion and support that was shown for my work and our efforts here at Liberatchik were extremely encouraging. I hope this was the first of many opportunities to spread the message of Liberty through my work and writings. The American people desperately need something positive to encourage them to stand their ground against the growth of government and loss of personal liberties. I genuinely hope that my work and that of those who are helping me plan a Liberty Art Tour will serve as inspiration to the nation at large. It is my goal to manufacture a modern image of Liberty that encompasses my passion for individual freedom over state tyranny in a modern style that is appealing and iconographic.

The entire painting was completed for the event on Friday. I was able to get a few pictures before I handed ‘Liberty for a New Generation’ over to her new owners. Jack, who is in the film, and his wife were the lucky ticket holders and had many kind words to say about my work. Here are my photos from the event:

Thank You for Your Service

I just read a very moving article at American Thinker. It’s sad that people have to go to Europe to get perspective on the sacrifice of our soldiers. It’s worse to think we have a President and First Lady who only see our servicemen as political pawns.
I think the author’s tradition of honoring a fallen soldier every year is a very touching and fitting tribute to the huge sacrifice they made in the name of freedom.
My disdain for Michelle Obama is only surpassed by my feelings toward her husband.
